On the afternoon of August 6, the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Conference was held in Jinan to commend the projects and individuals awarded the 2025 Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Awards. A total of 33 achievements from Yantai were on the list, including 8 first-tier or higher awards—comprising 1 International Cooperation Award, 1 Special Prize, 1 Targeted Award, and 5 First Prizes—along with 25 Second Prizes.

In terms of award count, Yantai's achievements this year are notable for their strong structure and high quality. Among the 33 awards, 23 were spearheaded by Yantai-based entities.
In terms of award levels, Yantai performed outstandingly across several high-value categories. For the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award, Professor Jeom Kee Paik (South Korean nationality), a specially appointed professor at Yantai Research Institute of Harbin Engineering University, was selected—marking Yantai's first win in this category since 2016, a gap of nine years. Regarding the Special Prize, the project "Development and Engineering Application of Large-Scale Integrated Green Wind Power Installation Vessels Under High Sea Conditions," led by Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd., was awarded the Special Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress. Following the Special Prize won by Tayho Advanced Materials in 2024, this marks the second consecutive year that Yantai has secured a spot among the province's three Special Prize projects, fully demonstrating the leading strength of key enterprises in breakthroughs of key technologies and major engineering applications.
In terms of award recipients, the role of enterprises as the "main force" of innovation has become increasingly prominent. Among the 299 provincial awarded projects, 23.3% were led by enterprises. For the 23 projects led by local entities, the proportion led by enterprises reached 26%, and the proportion of Technological Invention Awards and Scientific and Technological Progress Awards led or participated in by enterprises was as high as 67.7%. Major projects such as Wanhua Chemical's full industrial chain technology for Nylon 12 and CIMC Raffles' wind power installation vessels have not only broken through bottleneck "chokepoint" technologies but also driven collaborative upgrading across the upstream and downstream industrial chains. Enterprises are transforming from "followers" to "originators"of innovation, becoming a powerful engine for Yantai to scale new heights in science and technology.
These projects demonstrate both cutting-edge innovation leadership and support for industrial economy, showcase the latest outcomes of industry-university-research collaboration in Yantai, reflect the frontier level of the city's characteristic industries, highlight the technological innovation capabilities of Yantai enterprises, and also shine in areas where technology serves people's livelihoods.
These fruitful harvest of awards are a concentrated reflection of Yantai's in-depth implementation of the innovation-driven development strategy and its continuous optimization of the science and technology ecosystem. It is also a vivid footnote to the city's efforts to nurture a fertile innovation environment and stimulate talent vitality. Looking ahead, Yantai will unswervingly strengthen the principal role of enterprises in innovation, accelerate the construction of high-level science and technology platforms, deepen collaboration among universities, localities, and enterprises, and promote the integration of industry, academia, and research. It will work to transform more scientific and technological achievements from "paper" to "practice," using the "progress" of scientific and technological innovation to support the "stability" of high-quality development, and inject strong and sustained momentum into building a strong city in science and technology.
