The China-South Korea Calligraphy Exhibition and Maritime Cultural Exchange Station Officially Launched
Jiaodong.Net, September 22, 2025 (Reporter: Jia Chuhang) – On September 22, 2025, the launching ceremony of “Free Yantai” China-South Korea Calligraphy Exhibition and China-South Korea Cultural Exchange Maritime Station was held aboard the Yantai China-South Korea Ferry “XIN XIANG XUE LAN”.

Since ancient times, Yantai has been a vital gateway for maritime exchanges between China and South Korea, witnessing the profound friendship and pragmatic cooperation between the two peoples across the Yellow Sea. In recent years, Yantai has actively expanded cooperation channels with its sister cities in South Korea. It has successively established the Yantai-Gunsan and Yantai-Buyeo County sister-city media alliances and built the Korean Editorial Center of Shandong with high quality. Through vibrant content, diverse activities, and innovative formats, Yantai has promoted cultural exchange and mutual learning between the sister cities of the two countries.
China and South Korea are not only neighbors across the sea but also important partners in common development. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the launch of the China-South Korea ferry service. Over the past three decades, this maritime route has served not only as a “Golden Corridor” for business and trade exchanges but also as a “Cultural Canal” for people-to-people exchanges.
Calligraphy, as a shared cultural treasure of both countries, was a major highlight of the event. On August 8 this year, the “Free Yantai” China-South Korea Calligraphy Exhibition made its debut in Dangjin, South Korea. The exhibition has now returned to Yantai. During the opening ceremony, the Yantai Calligraphers Association and the South Korea Evergreen Calligraphers Association jointly inscribed the phrase “Free Yantai, Calligraphy Connects Hearts,” symbolizing the official completion of the transnational relay of the exhibition from South Korea to Yantai.
During the event, Yantai issued letters of appointment as “Coastal Wonderland · Timeless Yantai” City Promotion Ambassadors to South Korean calligraphy artists. Over 150 exquisite calligraphy works from calligraphers of both countries were displayed aboard the “XIN XIANG XUE LAN” ferry. After the current exhibition concludes, the works will continue to be exhibited at Shandong Business Institute.
