China-Japan-Korea Innovation Cooperation Conference Kicks Off in Yantai

Yantai Media Center, June 26, 2025 (YMG All-Media Reporter) – On the morning of June 26, 2025, the China-Japan-Korea Innovation Cooperation Conference kicked off at the Bajiao Bay International Convention and Exhibition Center in the Huang-Bohai New Area. Chen Jiachang, Vice Minister of Science and Technology, delivered a video speech. Jiang Cheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee and Secretary of the Yantai Municipal Party Committee; Song Junji, Vice Governor of Shandong Province; Okimura Kazuki, President of the International Exchange Center of Japan Science and Technology Agency; and Woo Su-keun, President of the Korea-China Friendship Federation, attended and delivered speeches. Also present were Dai Gang, Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology; Liu Taiguang, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shandong Provincial Government; Sun Haisheng, Director of the Department of Science & Technology of Shandong Province; Zhu Enyuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Science & Technology of Shandong Province; and Yu Shengtao, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Yantai Municipal Committee and Vice-Mayor of Yantai.

On behalf of the Yantai Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, Jiang Cheng extended a warm welcome to all guests. He noted that Yantai, as an important birthplace of China’s modern national industry and one of the first coastal open cities, is among the Chinese cities closest to Japan and South Korea. The city shares close people-to-people ties, cultural affinities, and frequent economic and trade exchanges with both countries. “Innovation Shapes the Future, Cooperation for Win-Win Development” is the theme of the conference and the original aspiration and founding mission of the China-Japan-Korea Innovation Cooperation Center. Yantai will strengthen policy support, optimize service guarantees, make every effort to build a new highland for innovation collaboration, pioneer a new model for technological breakthroughs, establish a new channel for cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and explore a new mechanism for opening-up and cooperation. It will strive to develop the center into a demonstration benchmark for trilateral collaboration and jointly write a new chapter of win-win cooperation.

Song Junji pointed out that establishing the China-Japan-Korea Innovation Cooperation Center and deepening scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation with Japan and South Korea is a concrete step to implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important remarks on scientific and technological innovation, as well as a key measure to fulfill the consensus reached at the Ninth China-Japan-South Korea Leaders’ Meeting. Efforts should be made to advance the high-quality development of the center under the framework of “one core + two poles + multiple bases + N nodes”. Leveraging advantages in geographical proximity, cultural affinity, and industrial integration, the initiative will focus on key fields such as biomedicine, information technology, and green and low-carbon development. By linking high-quality innovation resources from universities, research institutes, and enterprises, planning collaborative research projects, exploring the joint establishment of new R&D institutions and technology transfer service centers, and improving a broader and closer cooperation mechanism, we will jointly foster new productive forces, inject robust momentum into regional coordinated development and prosperity, and contribute more to global scientific and technological progress and cooperation.

During the conference, the promotional video of the China-Japan-Korea Innovation Cooperation Center was played. Letters of appointment were awarded to relevant consultant representatives, and awards were presented to winners of the Grand Finale of 2025 “Co-creation and Mutual Benefits” China-Japan-ROK Youth Innovation Cooperation Matchmaking Competition. Activities, including the signing of cooperation projects, the launch of the cooperation center, and keynote speeches, were also held.
