ICH Charm Shines on Campus! Yantai’s Cultural and Natural Heritage Day Exhibition Kicks Off

On June 14, the 2025 Yantai Cultural and Natural Heritage Day Promotion Exhibition and the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Youth · Campus Sharing Month event kicked off at Ludong University, unveiling a feast of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) integrating tradition and innovation in the port city. With the theme “Integrating into Modern Life – ICH in Youth”, the event aims to bring ICH into campuses, engage young people, and ignite public enthusiasm for preserving cultural and natural heritage through diverse activities.
The launch ceremony was held in a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere. The University-City ICH Alliance Declaration was signed, and plaques were awarded for the 6th batch of provincial-level ICH representative projects. Outside the venue, an eye-catching exhibition of ICH-themed graduation design works from universities and colleges in Yantai was unveiled on the square. The exhibition showcased selected graduation works from students of multiple Yantai-based universities and colleges, inspired by ICH, covering traditional crafts, cultural and creative design, digital art, and other fields. Students reinterpreted ICH from a modern perspective, ingeniously integrating elements such as paper-cutting, clay sculpture, and Jiaodong flower-shaped steamed buns into their works, breathing new life and vitality into the ancient craftsmanship. Each piece embodied the creativity and ingenuity of students, demonstrating the younger generation’s commitment to preserving and innovating ICH.
The Cultural and Creative ICH Market of ICH in Youth · Campus Sharing Month emerged as another highlight of the event, bringing together 48 representative Yantai ICH projects with unique local characteristics and meticulously crafted ICH cultural and creative works by teachers and students from Yantai-based universities and colleges. The market allowed visitors to closely observe the exquisite craftsmanship of Yantai paper-cutting, Laiyang pear syrup making, Yantai woolen embroidery, and other ICH techniques, and take home uniquely designed ICH cultural and creative products. After the ceremony, the ICH market will continue its campus tour this month at Yantai University, Shandong Technology and Business University, Shandong Business Institute, Yantai Institute of Technology, Yantai Vocational College, Yantai Engineering & Technology College, and other local universities and colleges, enabling more teachers and students to immerse themselves in the charm of ICH and experience the unique appeal of ICH techniques.
When ICH meets XR, sparks fly as tradition culture collides with modern technology. The event featured an ICH XR virtual scene, which quickly gained popularity with its unique display and rich experience. By introducing AI+XR technology, the event presented ICH stories in a more vivid and interesting way, helping more people understand the unique charm and value of Yantai’s ICH. Here, inheritance and innovation walked hand in hand, where the new trend of ICH integrated into modern life, and the beauty of ICH illuminates the Coastal Wonderland · Timeless Yantai.
This event has built a bridge for communication between ICH and teachers and students from universities and colleges. Through initiatives of ICH entering campuses, young students enhanced their sense of identity and pride in traditional culture?? by participation and experience, promoting the inheritance and development of ICH in the new era. On the same day, various districts and county-level cities across Yantai also held distinctive promotional exhibitions to celebrate the Cultural and Natural Heritage Day.?
