Jiaodong.Net, May 30, 2025 (Reporter: Jia Chuhang) – Suochengli has witnessed the evolving history of Yantai in east China’s Shandong province. As a fundamental unit of Yantai’s child-friendly initiatives, Suochengli is renowned as the Root of Yantai. On May 30, 2025, the Timeless Yantai · Heritage in Young Hands - Child-Friendly Intangible Heritage Inheritance Activity and the Opening Ceremony of the Child-Friendly Block were held here, co-organized by the Yantai Women’s Federation, the Municipal Education Bureau, and the Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism.

Children are the future of the country and the hope of the nation. Building a child-friendly city is crucial for the healthy growth and bright future of children. Yantai has always integrated the philosophy of ??“Children First”?? into all aspects of economic and social development, exploring the Yantai Model for child-friendly city construction. In March this year, Yantai was successfully included in the fourth batch of the national child-friendly city construction program.

“Yantai boasts splendid and diverse intangible cultural heritage (ICH). As the future stars of the city, children carry unlimited hope for urban development, and they are important forces and hopes for ICH inheritance,” stated Li Shaona, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Chairwoman of the Yantai Women’s Federation. In her address, she introduced that the Yantai Women’s Federation and the Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism have carefully launched 50 sessions of public welfare research projects, organized city-wide ICH-themed work collection for children and ICH commentator selection activities together with the education department, and jointly developed an ICH-themed block with Blue Sky Group. By vigorously promoting the activity of ICH in Tens of Thousands of Households, we have transformed ICH from “historical legacy” into “living present,” laying a solid spiritual foundation for children’s growth.

At the event, children’s representatives from Yantai’s child-friendly schools read aloud the Child-Friendly ICH Inheritance Pledge, calling on peers across the city to take the baton of ICH safeguarding with an unwavering commitment of “the legacy lives on in me.”

After the opening of the child-friendly block, adhering to the principle of “viewing the world from a one-meter height”, it will become a cultural root-seeking hub for Yantai’s children. A series of child-friendly measures will launch, including setting up immersive ICH experience zones, carrying out ICH research projects for children, installing child-friendly photo walls, and holding child-tailored thematic activities. These initiatives will empower children to discover the city’s roots and memories, ensuring the inheritance of Yantai’s ICH from generation to generation.

The child-friendly ICH works exhibition held at the event displayed award-winning masterpieces from the collection activity, offering visitors an immersive ICH aesthetic experience. Twelve themed booths featuring paper-cutting, dough sculpting, tie-dye, straw weaving, oracle bone script, fish printing, etc., presented 138 ICH works. Each creative work endows ICH with new vitality, reflecting children’s unique artistic interpretation of ICH and highlighting the exquisite craftsmanship of ICH.
