China’s First Generative Paper-Cutting Product Based on the Private Deployment of DeepSeek Unveiled at Shandong Business Institute
Recently, an exciting announcement recently emerged from the School of Information Engineering of Shandong Business Institute: Jianyi Turing, China’s first generative paper-cutting product based on the private deployment of DeepSeek, has been successfully developed. Relying on the Shandong Provincial Engineering Research Center for Empowering the Green and Low-Carbon Transformation Industry with Artificial Intelligence, this innovative product was jointly developed by the teachers and students of the institute. It marks a pioneering step on the path of deeply integrating advanced artificial intelligence technology with the intangible cultural heritage (ICH) of paper-cutting art.
The institute has been deeply engaged in the research on the inheritance of ICH paper-cutting culture and education. It has established research institutions, such as the Institute of Cultural Quality Education, the Institute of Digital Creativity, and the Institute of Craftsmanship Inheritance of Jiaodong Handicrafts, and it is also a demonstration institute for the inheritance of outstanding traditional Chinese culture in Shandong Province.
Gao Xiaoyan, the project leader, has in-depth research in the field of new media. She has presided over or participated in the Shandong Provincial Vocational Education Skills Inheritance and Innovation Platform—the New Media Inheritance and Innovation Platform for ICH Paper-cutting Art, Research Project of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education titled Research on the ICH Multi-level Protection Strategies of the Grand Canal (Shandong Section) from the Perspective of Industrialization, the digital textbook of Design and Production of ICH Paper-cutting, and won the Second Prize of the Outstanding Teaching Achievement Award of Shandong Provincial Vocational Education. She also developed excellent curriculum resources for community education in Shandong Province titled Love Paper-cutting, Love Life, participated in the Yantai Fine Arts Support Project titled Inheriting the Red Spirit through Digital ICH, won the Second Prize in the Excellent Achievement Award of the Special Project of Art Education in Shandong Province. She has guided students to produce ICH paper-cutting animation short films that have won awards many times. The Application of Animation Technology course, developed with paper-cutting animation short films as the project carrier, has been approved as an online excellent course of Shandong Provincial Vocational Education and a shared excellent resource course in Shandong Province. Gao Xiaoyan stated that this project takes paper-cutting art as its core and achieves the dual goals of cultural inheritance and educational promotion through modern scientific and technological means, demonstrating the innovative charm of ICH in the new era.

In terms of technical approach, the project utilizes Chinese-English recognition technology and hands-on parts DeepSeek to optimize keywords, enabling the efficient generation of creative content related to paper-cutting art. At the same time, the image dataset and AI models independently developed by the project team have original copyrights, protected by data security penetration technology to ensure their clear and secure ownership.
The product supports seamless cross-platform integration for WeChat Mini Programs, Mobile Apps, and PC Clients, as well as hardware-software bundling technology for App compatibility. In the realm of education and cultural inheritance, the project incorporates rich paper-cutting elements to embody the spirit of ICH preservation, while preventing lower-grade students or young children from using scissors to ensure safety during the process. Moreover, users can engage in mobile learning anytime, anywhere, aligning with the goals of universal and mobile digital literacy education. By presenting paper-cutting art digitally, it supports aesthetic education in schools and community education, effectively boosting primary and secondary students’ enthusiasm for learning Chinese, English, and other languages. The integration of generative AI technology also provides a brand-new learning experience for students’ general AI education. In terms of application scenarios, paper-cutting art has a wide range of uses with diverse scenarios. The project supports low-cost ICH personalized customization, catering to various users’ needs. Leveraging the team’s accumulated achievements and experience, combined with diverse teaching materials and online courses, the original AI models can be extended for further development, offering more possibilities and vast innovative space for ICH dissemination. The project is ready for demonstration and exhibition, laying a solid foundation for promotion. “We hope to ignite new vitality in paper-cutting art through the power of technology, allowing more people to experience the unique charm of ICH,” said Gao.

During the project’s research and development, teachers, with their profound professional knowledge and rich scientific research experience, played a leading role in steering technical directions, optimizing key algorithms, and so on. Students, meanwhile, brought fresh vitality to the project through their active thinking, innovative mindset, and craftsmanship spirit. They conducted in-depth research into the history, styles, and techniques of paper-cutting art, developing specialized datasets for model training. During hands-on parts, such as coding and model debugging, teachers and students continuously experimented with new methods and ideas, communicated with each other repeatedly, and overcame one technical problem after another.
The successful development of this generative paper-cutting product based on DeepSeek’s private deployment would not have been possible without the strong support from several key partners: Xu Yonglong, Deputy Dean of Tencent Emerging Engineering Research Institute in Yantai; Shang Chuanhui, General Manager of Inspur Zhuoshu Big Data Industry Development Co., Ltd.; Xu Zhidong, General Manager of Yantai Qiongqi Network Technology Co., Ltd.; Yi Peijuan, representative inheritor of ICH paper-cutting; Tang Qilong, General Manager of Yantai Datang Film Media Co., Ltd.; and Li Yuhua, General Manager of Shandong Honghua Precision Digital Intelligent Manufacturing Management Consulting Co., Ltd. This collaboration showcases the outstanding achievements of our institute in driving technological innovation, cultural inheritance, and talent cultivation through industry-education integration. At the same time, it is also an important manifestation of the mutual promotion and integration of the Party Building Red + Information Blue in the School of Information Engineering, the empowerment of teaching by AI, and the improvement of the aesthetic education and digital literacy ability of teachers and students.
