Languan Opera

Languan Opera is an ancient opera genre that is popular in the regions of Laizhou and Zhaoyuan in Shandong Province. Classified as a high tune “Daoqing opera”, it was among the first batch of China’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage. Languan Opera originated in the late Ming Dynasty and flourished in the early Qing Dynasty. Languan Opera integrates three core elements—chorus, percussion, and vocal performance, creating a unique artistic style. The main content of Languan Opera is based on the legends of the Eight Immortals, with major works including the serial dramas “Eight Immortals” and “Journey to the West”.
