Traditional Gold Mining and Smelting Techniques

Zhaoyuan, located in Shandong Province, is the largest gold mining and smelting base in China, with gold veins spread throughout the area. In January 2002, Zhaoyuan was named “China’s Gold Capital”. Gold mining and smelting in Zhaoyuan began during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, and flourished during the Song Dynasty.

The traditional gold mining and smelting techniques invented by the people of Zhaoyuan, has passed down for over a thousand years since the Song Dynasty.
