The 2024 World Industrial Design Conference Achieved Fruitful Results!
On September 29th, the Information Office of Yantai Municipal People's Government held a press conference. Zhang Zhenggong, Deputy Director of the Industry and Information Technology Bureau of Yantai Municipality, and Deng Bin, the Deputy Dean of the Shandong Industrial Design Institute, introduced the achievements of the 2024 World Industrial Design Conference and answered questions from reporters.

The 2024 World Industrial Design Conference was co-hosted by the China Industrial Design Association, the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Shandong Province, and the People's Government of Yantai, and organized by the Industry and Information Technology Bureau of Yantai Municipality and the Shandong Industrial Design Institute. With the joint efforts of all parties, the conference was held in Yantai from September 20th to 22nd and concluded successfully.
Building a Consensus for Development
Jointly Exploring the New Quality Productive Forces of Design
As a top event in the global industrial design field, the World Industrial Design Conference has been successfully held in Yantai for five consecutive years. With the strong support from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the provincial government, and various sectors of society, this year's conference, themed "Design·New Quality Productive Forces", gathered innovative leaders such as representatives from government agencies, industry organizations, academic experts, entrepreneurs, and designers from 61 countries and regions around the world, through a combination of online and offline methods. The conference fostered comprehensive and forward-looking exchanges of ideas, contributing leading and innovative insights. About 800 representatives from the industrial and information systems of various provinces and cities across the country, international delegates, design institutions, enterprises, and universities in the national industrial design sector, attended the conference. Relevant provincial and municipal leaders delivered speeches at the conference, and 15 representatives from international design institutions and organizations sent congratulatory messages via video. Wang Haifeng, CTO of Baidu and National Outstanding Engineer, Guan Daowen, founding dean of the School of Innovation and Creativity of Southern University of Science and Technology, and Liu Guanzhong, senior professor of Humanities at Tsinghua University and Honorary Vice President of the China Industrial Design Association gave keynote speeches. These speeches deepened the attendees' understanding and thinking about the new models and paths for the industrial design development in the new era. They also provided a platform for jointly exploring how industrial design can promote the formation and development of new quality productive forces, injecting new vitality into industrial transformation and upgrading, as well as the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry.

The World Industrial Design Association was founded in Yantai.
Representatives from design industry organizations, universities, research institutions, and scholars from China, Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, Brazil, Japan, Vietnam, and other countries jointly initiated the establishment of the World Industrial Design Association in Yantai. By leading and empowering with cutting-edge technologies, it unleashes the limitless potential of industrial design and promotes the deep integration and sharing of global industrial design expertise and resources.

The China Design Industry Top 100 was unveiled here.
The conference announced the 2024 China Design Industry Top 100 and awarded representatives from the Top 10 Design Institutions, Designers, Emerging Talents, Innovative Brands, Enterprise Design Centers, Design Innovation Platforms, Brand Events, Academies, Educators, and Promoters in China. It has created a platform for cross-disciplinary integration and collaborative development, connecting outstanding industrial design enterprises, institutions, universities, and individuals across the country.

The "Governor Cup Industrial Design Competition of Shandong" awards were presented here.
Provincial government leaders presented awards to the 13 gold and 32 silver medalists of "The 5th Governor Cup Industrial Design Competition of Shandong". Outstanding works such as the "High-speed Rail First-Class Seats for 450 km/h" by Shandong Industrial Design Institute, the "Vehicle-Mounted Turbine Fracturing Equipment" by Yantai Jereh Oilfield Equipment Technology Co., Ltd., and the "Breathable Bed Sheets" by Yantai Mingyuan Creative Life Technology Co., Ltd. won gold awards, showcasing the latest achievements in the development of industrial design in Shandong.

The Expert Seminar on Building Yantai into a "City of Design" was held here.
Representatives from "City of Design" cities, along with domestic and international industry experts, were invited to share urban development experiences, exchange design ideas, and discuss the deep integration of design with industrial development, rural revitalization, urban renewal, culture, and the creation of better living conditions. The seminar aims to enhance the international competitiveness and influence of cities, providing intellectual support for Yantai's bid to become a "City of Design".

Advocating Original Design
Promoting the Iterative Upgrade of Innovative Concepts
This conference meticulously planned a display space with a total area of 6,000 square meters and set up four major display areas, namely the display area for International Excellent Industrial Design Works Exhibition, the display area for Governor Cup Industrial Design Competition of Shandong Award-winning Works Exhibition, the display area for Governor Cup Industrial Design Competition of Shandong Textile Apparel Division Award-winning Works Exhibition, and the display area for Yantai Innovation Design Works Exhibition. More than 500 innovative works from nearly 200 renowned design institutions, manufacturing enterprises, and universities and research institutes at home and abroad, such as CRRC, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, Weichai Holding Group Co.,Ltd., and Yantai Jereh Oilfield Equipment Technology Co., Ltd., were displayed. These works covered sectors ranging from high-tech areas like aerospace, intelligent robots, and electronic information to livelihood fields like medical devices, cultural and creative products, and household appliances. These works fully demonstrated the important value of industrial design in driving the upgrade of innovation models and promoting the expansion of innovation fields, representing leading achievements in industrial design both domestically and internationally. During the conference, a rich variety of industry activities were also carefully arranged, such as the Service-oriented Manufacturing Tour of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Design Promotion for Shandong Manufacturing, the Yantai Mayor Cup Industrial Design Competition Award Ceremony & Industrial Design Lecture, and the City Design Tour in Yantai. These activities provided platforms and opportunities for enterprise representatives, expert scholars, and others from various industrial fields at home and abroad, as well as in the design industry, to spark ideas, experience the charm of design, and ignite innovative inspiration. Over 10,000 interactive participants joined, greatly promoting the sharing and exchange of design resources, building the brand IP of Yantai's industrial design, and continuously advancing the integration of design innovation and industries.

The publicity work of this conference, in accordance with the requirements of high standards, a broad perspective, and a comprehensive approach, received strong support from media outlets at all levels, guided by the relevant provincial and municipal departments. Over 40 journalists from media outlets such as China News Service, CCTV, Shandong TV station, Dazhong Daily, ifeng.com, and Yantai Media Convergence Group attended the conference, simultaneously covering the grand event, guest views, and conference outcomes, spreading them both domestically and internationally.
